Oktoberfest in the Midwest

The original Oktoberfest was a celebration of the marriage between Bavarian Prince Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. Held October 12, 1810, it’s not clear whether or not the soon to be king wore lederhosen or not, but ever since, the Bavarian people have been dressing in traditional costume and marching the streets of Munich where they partake in a 16-day long festival in honor of the royal marriage from days past. Good news is, you don’t have to travel far to join in on the festivities. Here in Indianapolis, there are multiple events, all centered around good German food and good times. Here’s a list of five Indy-based Oktoberfests—lederhosen, optional.
